ELISE HOWELL

I craft functional, handmade pottery from my solar powered home studio in Mammoth Lakes and I sell it at regional art shows as well as at the MAC gallery and the Booky Joint.

I began my ceramic training in 2013 where I took classes from and volunteered with Theresa Otto.

This time was particularly enlightening for it provided me with the opportunity to make pottery as well as to test my dedication to the art form. In 2021, I set up my own home studio.

My body of work reflects the many influences I have had over the years. The result is a line of functional artworks that are intended for daily use in the kitchen and home. My work is primarily wheel thrown with stoneware clay and the forms are earthy and minimalistic. I use an electric kiln to fire all my work.

I love making pottery. One of the things I love most about working with clay is that it is a plentiful and natural material that has been used for centuries. It has no expiration date and is completely recyclable until it has been fired.

Much of the clay I use is reclaimed and recycled.

It is a true joy to see someone fall in love with one of my pieces and take it home to enjoy for decades. I am grateful to be a part of the local art community here in Mammoth Lakes.
